Guide Review: Working on the Road: The Unconventional Guide to Full-Time Freedom
This week I had the pleasure of reviewing: Working on the Road: The Unconventional Guide to Full-Time Freedom, a new guide written by long-term traveler and financial expert Nora Dunn. Nora knows of what she speaks: she’s been traveling since 2006 while maintaining a successful freelance-writing business and a popular blog: The Professional Hobo.
This guide is for:
Anyone thinking or dreaming about a work situation that offers more freedom. The guide covers everything you need to know about taking a career (or making a new career) on the road.
I wish I’d had this guide myself when setting off two years ago. It would have saved me so much problem-solving and grief!
Chapters include:
- Location Independent Ways To Work On The Road
- Non-Location Independent Ways To Work On The Road
- The Cost of Living On The Road
- The Challenges of Life (And Work) On The Road
- Embarking On The Travel Lifestyle
- Before Getting Down to Your Work On The Road
- Tools ForThe Road (Regardless of How You Work)
- Tools and Overhead Costs for Running a Business OnThe Road
Why it’s Useful:
Ninety-two pages of practical information will help you understand the realities of a nomadic work lifestyle as well as give you the keys to making it work. I appreciate that Nora does not sugarcoat the rough parts (working on the road is not a vacation) and provides real-life examples of how others, including families, deal with the challenges. She has also included budget templates and checklists.
The guide is nicely formatted, easy to read, and easy to understand. There are links to resources, many of them free, throughout the guide. Each chapter is summarized for extra clarity and action steps are provided. This is so helpful when you’re not sure where to start!
Again, I had to learn so much of this the hard way. And I learned a lot more with this guide! If you’re thinking of a location-independent lifestyle or unconventional work options, save yourself a lot of grief and invest in this quality guide that will be a resource for years to come.
The guide is priced at a very reasonable $49. Add-ons can also be purchased as needed.
