Photo of the Week: Bo-Kaap District in Cape Town
Bo-Kaap is an old neighborhood in Cape Town close to the city center. It was a slum for many years and neglected under the apartheid government. Residents were not allowed to paint their homes as they wished. When the new President, Nelson Mandela, visited the neighborhood in 1994, residents asked about painting their homes. He said: Paint as you wish! This is the new South Africa!
