Maybe you’ve noticed…
I haven’t been enjoying my time in Cambodia much.
Just the opposite of my reaction to Crete, when I got to Phnom Penh, I had an instant visceral reaction that I did not like it. Very strong. I wanted to flee.
Realizing that I was experiencing culture shock to some degree I gave it some time. Two weeks to be exact. Perhaps if I waited longer, my feelings would grow to tolerance but I don’t envision that they would ever grow to like.
I don’t regret coming here. I’ve learned a lot in the last two weeks. About myself and about Cambodia.
But as predicted, my plans are now changing.
Instead of sticking it out being unhappy, I’m going back to the place where I left a piece of my heart; back to Crete, Greece. It will be a winter scene there as opposed to the balmy warmth in Cambodia but it feels like the right move. I am thankful that the credit card companies have given me so many free airline miles because it gives me the freedom to go anywhere on a whim for almost no money.
As the year comes to a close, I want to thank all my loyal readers. It’s wonderful to know that you’re out there and on this journey with me. Your kind and supportive comments mean so much to me and keep me writing. Thank you. May the New Year bring you all you dream of.
