Africa: The Sweetest Surprise

Elephants in Chobe River,

Elephants in Chobe River, Botswana

As I sit here in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, my mind spins from the sights and activities of the last twenty days on an overland adventure with Nomad Tours.

This morning I said goodbye to friends.  People who were unknown to me 20 days ago.  Despite my introversion and initial concerns, I will miss several of them.  Even some of the Germans.  Yep.

Prior to this trip, Africa was never high on my list of places to visit.  Now, I hang my head in SHAME for thinking it was just a huge, scary continent with more hassles than goodness.  I was terribly wrong.  For the history lover, the animal lover, the nature lover, and the adventurous, it is teeming with riches.  South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe are not to be missed.

Tomorrow I begin my journey to Kathmandu, Nepal where I intend to do some trekking and dive deep into a vastly different culture and landscape.

But a piece of my heart will be left in Africa.
